Privacy Policy for Summarize with AI

Effective 2 November 2026 — version 0.6.2.

What the extension does

Summarize with AI helps you summarize a webpage using ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or Gemini. When you click “Summarize and send” or use its shortcut, it reads the selected page's URL, title and main content. It combines that content with your prompt prefix and places the request in your chosen AI website. It activates Send once only when its safety checks pass.

The selected content can include personal information, conversations or other sensitive material. Only use the action on content you want your chosen provider to process. The extension does not browse through your chat history in the background. If you choose a page containing conversations as the source, its extracted content may be included. Existing destination drafts are inspected locally to prevent overwriting or sending them.

Where content goes

Ordinary webpage extraction runs locally. The summary request goes into your chosen AI website using your existing website session. Once inserted, the website can access the draft and may process or autosave it under its own practices, even if the extension does not activate Send. A “nothing automatically sent” message means the extension did not click Send; it does not guarantee that the provider has not processed the draft.

For YouTube, the extension first tries captions or transcripts. It may make requests to YouTube using your existing session and YouTube-provided player or visitor information. If captions are unavailable and you supplied a Groq API key, it sends a signed YouTube audio URL to Groq for transcription. If necessary, it downloads the audio from Google's video servers and uploads the audio file to Groq. The resulting transcript becomes part of the summary request. Groq receives your key only through its transcription API. Groq charges may apply. Without a configured key this optional transcription is skipped.

Third-party providers control their own retention and use of information. Review their policies and account settings before using them. Summarize with AI has no developer-operated extraction server, analytics service or advertising service.

What stays in your browser

Your chosen provider and prompt prefix are stored in local extension storage without Chrome synchronization. The optional Groq key is kept only in trusted extension session storage, in memory. It is cleared when the browser restarts or the extension is disabled, reloaded or updated. Re-enter it in Options when needed; saving an empty key disables optional transcription. Version 0.6.2 removes the obsolete persistent key without changing other preferences. The published package contains no developer API key and does not read a local key configuration file. The extension does not implement its own encryption for local preferences; do not place secrets in your prompt prefix.

Temporary in-memory session records contain the prepared prompt, source URL, tab/document identifiers, ownership identifiers and delivery status. A request older than one hour is refused and removed when next accessed; this is not a scheduled one-hour deletion. Closing its destination tab removes the pending prompt record. A separate source-URL/destination-tab mapping used to prevent repeated actions can remain until overwritten or the extension/browser session ends. Ending the browser session clears session records. Removing the extension removes its extension storage.

How information is used

The extension uses information to prepare and deliver the summary you request and to protect drafts and prevent repeated sends. Necessary transfers are to your chosen AI provider and, when enabled, Groq transcription. The developer does not sell this information, use it for advertising or unrelated purposes, or use it to decide creditworthiness or lending eligibility.

Summarize with AI uses and transfers information in accordance with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Your controls

You choose the source page, AI provider and prompt prefix. Existing or restored destination drafts, detected user edits, changed destination URLs, missing Send controls and overlong requests stop automatic sending. Check the conversation before retrying an unconfirmed request. You can clear the Groq key or remove the extension. Deleting extension data does not delete content already held by an AI provider; manage that content with the provider.
